The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre Guild, the play selection committee, has recently completed their annual task of deciding the upcoming season of shows and events. The season roster was submitted to the Theatre Board of Directors for approval.
The Board of Directors has approved the 2014-2015 Little Theatre season. As Cheryl Grace, Board President, expressed to the Guild, “Now we are off to the races – of new creative energy and community involvement!”
The new season of shows that are included in the Theatre membership include a wide variety of theatrical experiences. The new season will open with the iconic musical “The Fantasticks” on September 19. It is the world’s longest-running musical. There are many familiar songs in the show including “Try to Remember” that makes the show so durable. Then “On Borrowed Time”, a tender, charming play that is firmly rooted in human soil and explores the roles of life and death in humanity, will open in November. In January, 2015, a hilarious comedy “Anybody Out There” written by John Patrick who also wrote “Teahouse of the August Moon” will open. Richard O’Briant will direct the show. The entire Guild loved it and laughed out loud when reading this play.
The annual Tennessee Williams” Tribute will stage the classic “Summer and Smoke” written by Williams to be presented in March, 2015. The season will end with the Pulitzer Prize winning “Wit” by Margaret Edson. The play also received the “New Best Play” award from New York Drama Critics’ Circle in 1999. It was revived on Broadway in 2012. “Brilliant and provokes long-lasting discussion….”- The Times.
Along with the season line-up, the Theatre will also present its annual performances of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” movie as the backyard movie on October 25th. The Little Theatre will perform an outdoor live show of “Rats” preceding the movie. Another annual tradition is the” Live Christmas Nativity” that will be performed on the Depot District grounds on December 19 and 20. The annual Valentine Dinner Variety Show is scheduled for February 14, 2015.
The Little Theatre will be seeking for directors and stage crew for each show. Directors are needed for “The Fantasticks”, “On Borrowed Time”, and “Summer and Smoke.” Audition dates for each show are announced in local newspapers and on the Little Theatre website.
