The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open its new production “The Ransom of Red Chief” based on the classic short story by O.Henry on Friday, January 22, 2016.
The story is one of the most popular short stories by O.Henry and first published in the Saturday Evening Post in 1907. Several movies scripts have been based on the story including “Ruthless People” in 1986 starring Danny DeVito and Bette Midler.
The tale is a hilarious story of two ne’er-do-wells who kidnap a young boy in Summit, Missouri, and hold him for ransom. The two crooks intended to use the money to fund a scam that would cause financial ruin for honest folks. But the moment that they arrive at their hideout with the boy, the plan begins to unravel. This is a classic O.Henry story with a twist and the ransom attempt does not go as planned.
The show is directed by Larry Clark and produced by Cheryl Grace.
The cast includes Michael LeBeau as Red Chief, Bill Matkin, Jim Codling, Irv Hansen, Terry Cullen, Sarah Morgan, Jason Sampson, Robert Smith, Lex Mauffray, Marilyn Borja, Elizabeth Silverhawke, Linda Aiaviolasiti, Gloria Noonan, and Connie Hansen, and Lottie Codling.
The children of the cast include Jay Melton, Amaya Clark, Liam Morgan, Leena Morgan, Ethan Mauffray, Elly Mauffray, and Marcus Cordeiro.
Laurie Spaschak will do set design. Set construction is by Dean Noel.

The show dates and times are January 22, 23, 29, 30 at 8pm and January 24 and 31 at 2pm.
Tickets for the show can be purchased online or purchased at Maggie May’s at 126 Main Street or Twin Light Creations at 136 Main Street. Ticket fees are $15 adults, $10 Seniors 65+, veterans, military, and students with ID, and $6 for children 12 and under. Seat reservations can be made online or by calling 228-467-9024 or email the Little Theatre. Reservations for seats must be made for all ticket holders including season ticket holders to be able to accommodate the show’s audiences.
Doors open one hour before the show and seating starts 30 minutes before each show.
