The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open its new 2015-2016 season with the iconic production “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” by Todd Kriedler based on the Academy Award winning screenplay by William Rose. This performance will be the first time the show will be performed in the state of Mississippi. The history making movie starred Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and Sidney Poitier. The movie was nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture. Along with winning Best Screenplay, the movie’s lead, Hepburn, also won Best Actress. Several dialogues in the movie are considered the most popular and most quoted in film history.
The play is set in 1967 but remains relevant today. The story explores a progressive couple’s proud liberal sensibilities as they are put to the test when their daughter arrives home bursting with excitement and with an unexpected fiancé. Expectations and reality collide when questions of race, fear, and cultural beliefs are staring them directly in the face and in their own home. The play delivers passionate, teachable moments of acceptance and when it comes to matters of the heart, true love is colorblind.
The show is directed by Larry Clark and produced by Cheryl Grace. The cast includes Rick Amos, Cheryl Grace, Larry Clark, Marsha Ragins, Mary Ellen Murphy, Alex Birdwell, Stefen King, Christina Nelson, and Patricia Tice. Laurie Spaschak will do set design. Set construction is by Dean Noel. Beverly Vincent will manage sound and lights. The stage manager and crew are Niecko Morgan and Dave Silverman.
The show dates and times are September 25, 26, and October 2, 3, 10 at 8pm and September 27 and October 4, 11 at 2pm. Doors open one hour before the show and seating starts 30 minutes before each show.
Tickets for the show can be purchased online or purchased at Maggie May’s at 126 Main Street or Twinlight Creations at 136 Main Street. Ticket fees are $15 adults, $10 Seniors 65+, veterans, military, and students with ID, and $6 for children 12 and under. Seat reservations can be made online or by calling 228-467-9024 or email the Little Theatre. Reservations for seats must be made for all ticket holders including season ticket holders to be able to accommodate the show’s audiences.
