Sea Coast Echo: Mystery Dinner Theatre

The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open a comedy mystery dinner theater on Friday, August 12th and will continue on Saturday, August 13, Friday, August 19, and Saturday, August 20. The Little Theatre performed mystery dinner theaters at Luke’s Dinner Theatre in Slidell and Long Beach Lodge in Long Beach before moving into its permanent home in the Depot District. “We have had such a great time performing the dinner comedy shows and the audiences have always had fun, we couldn’t wait to do it in our new home,” stated Jim Duggan , the director of the show. The Little Theatre will be converted into a dinner theatre similar to the Valentine’s dinner theatre performed last February.

The comedy murder mystery keeps the audience involved in determining “who-dunnit” while dining on a multi-course meal. The cast moves throughout the audience during the dinner while the plot thickens. During the cocktail hour, it becomes clear that the entire audience is dining in a dirigible called the Colossus on New Year’s Eve 1929. References to the Jazz Age, the live piano music, and period costumes remind the audience of the flapper era.

The cast includes Jimmy Duggan, Larry Clark, Lex Mauffray, Brandi Mills, Robert W. Smith, Donna Oakley, Barry Newman, Clayton Pennylegion, and Cheryl Grace of the Gulf Coast Repertory Players. Clayton Pennylegion is producer.

The multi-course dinner includes salad with choice of balsamic or raspberry vinaigrette dressing, entre choices of parmigian crusted chicken with artichoke cream sauce or blackened catfish with shrimp and grits jambalaya or a vegetarian entre all served with sides of vegetables. The dessert choices are bread pudding or chocolate ganache cake. Southern Delights is catering the event. All beverages including soda, beer, and wine will be sold in the Little Theatre. However, patrons are permitted to bring their own brand liquor.

Dinner and show is $50 per person and $90 per couple. The Theatre doors open at 6:15pm and the show starts at 7pm. Reservations and menu choices for the August 12 and 13 show must be made by August 9th. Reservations and menu choices for the August 19th and 20th show must be made by August 16th. Seating is limited. It is recommended to reserve as soon as possible.

Reservations are being taken on site at Twin Light Creations at 136 Main Street, at Southern Delights at the corner of Dunbar and Highway 90, and at Lulu’s at 126 Main Street. Reservations can be made on line at www.bsllt.org or call 228-864-2882. Also, the Little Theatre has provided a “drop box” on its front porch for patrons who want to bring their reservations and fees to the Theatre at 398 Blaize Avenue.

The Little Theatre will once again showcase its diversity with the conversion into a dinner theater venue. “It will be an evening of great food and lots of fun,” commented Cheryl Grace, the Little Theatre President.
