The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open its latest production “Anybody Out There?” written by John Patrick on January 16th. It has comedic situations and dialogue that creates much laughter. John Patrick is a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning author. His Pulitzer Prize winning play was “The Teahouse of the August Moon.” He adapted plays to film such as “The Philadelphia Story” was made into the movie “High Society.” The film “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” was his adaptation from the autobiographical novel “A Many Splendored Thing.”
The story revolves around Poor Oliver Pankey, who is a born loser; his landlady charges him when someone else breaks his window; his fiancee leaves him for a married man; his boss at the bank cuts his pay when he asks for a raise; and a thief takes everything he has—and then his doctor tells him he has six months to live. Oliver is now fed up and performs feats of bravery and becomes the bank manager. And then another twist in this funny story. The action spins zanily on, deftly finding its way to a happy – and hilarious – conclusion. You will hear the audience’s laughter outside the Theatre.
The show is directed by Richard O’Briant and produced by Cheryl Grace. The cast includes Michael Brown, Anne Marie Jones, Drew Puffer, Mary Ellen Murphy, Irv Hansen, Terry Cullen, Bill Matkin, Christina Nelson, Clayton Pennylegion, Jim Duggan, and David Silverman. Set construction is by Dean Noel. Beverly Vincent is assistant director and stage manager.
